Two people have been charged with nearly 30 shoplifting offences

WEST MIDLANDS Police have charged two people with almost 30 shoplifting offences across Coventry.

Officers acted on information yesterday (May, 28) and arrested a 44 year-old woman due to a series of shop thefts from last autumn until earlier this month.

Karen George, from Coventry has been charged with 11 thefts, one attempted theft and a public order offence, she was remanded to appear in Coventry Magistrates Court today.

Coming after officers detained a 28-year-old man on Monday (May, 27) in connection to a number of unrelated shoplifting offences.

Michael Mewis, from Coventry, has been charged with 16 counts of shop theft between March and May this year, he was remanded to appear in court yesterday.

West Midlands Police said they routinely carry out high visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activity, to trace suspects.
