TWO PEOPLE have been jailed after a burglary plot in Coventry led to a man being held captive.

The pair lured a man to an address, before tying him up, blackmailing him and burgling his home.

The victim was subject to a terrifying ordeal which saw him kept captive for a number of hours as they tried to demand thousands of pounds from him.

The 19-year-old victim travelled from Essex to Coventry to complete the legitimate sale of designer items on December 16 2023.

After entering an address he was ambushed by Dontae Anderson and a teenage accomplice.

The victim had a bag pulled over his head and was tied up. Demands were then made for money before the victim’s house keys were taken and he was left abandoned at the property.

A while later he managed to free himself and escape the address, he did not receive any significant injuries.

In the meantime the pair – alongside another man Alize Anderson – had travelled to, and burgled, the man’s home in Essex.

West Midlands Police investigation team were able to quickly identify the offenders and their vehicle was stopped in the Northamptonshire area during the early hours of the next day.

The stolen property was recovered and all three were arrested and charged.

Dontae Anderson admitted burglary, false imprisonment and blackmail while a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to his age, changed his plea during the trial.

Alize Anderson also pleaded guilty to burglary after the trial started.

They were sentenced at Coventry Crown Court on Tuesday November 26.

Dontae Anderson, aged 21 from Sewall Highway, Coventry, was jailed for seven years and two months at Coventry Crown Court on the same day.

Alize Anderson, aged 22 from Dennis Road, Coventry, was sentenced to two years and four months.

The 16-year-old received five years and eight months.

Detective Sergeant Matt Marston, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “The victim was subjected to a terrifying ordeal which lasted for hours before he managed to break free.

“They planned this venture with the sole purpose of extracting a large sum of money, but instead they now face a significant amount of time in jail.”
