A MAN and a woman have been taken to hospital after police responded to reports they had suffered injuries after being attacked by a dog in Coventry.

Police were called to Purcell Road shortly before 4pm today (Thursday) and tasered the dog, which is believed to be a XL Bully.

They then placed it in a wheelie bin to ensure the public’s safety.

The man and woman’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening and no arrests have been made at this stage.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation but believe the owner of the dog is related to the man who was attacked.

“We understand this was a very distressing incident for anyone who witnessed it and we will be having extra officers in the area to offer reassurance.

“The dog will be put to sleep.”

Witnesses or people with information should contact police via Live Chat on their website or by calling 101 quoting crime investigation number 20/849096/23.
