COVENTRY’S Reel Store will be introducing an award-winning immersive exhibition exploring the life and work of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo later this month.
The exhibition will run from November 25 to January 29 and combines academic research with an immersive spectacle.
The exhibition uses Kahlo’s diary to take visitors on a journey into her own universe, exploring her identity as a woman, painter and icon.
The show is split into three parts with a voiceover, with the first section showing her as an acclaimed public figure in the 1930s and 1940s.
The second focuses on her personal story including her family origins in Mexico, as well as a bus crash in 1925 that nearly paralysed her and her tumultuous relationship with artist Diego Rivera.
The final section centres around ‘The Blue House’ in Mexico, where Kahlo lived and where many of her most famous works were painted.
Visitors can also discover extracts from Kahlo’s diary revealing previously unknown details about her as well as several of her masterpieces, which has been reinterpreted and displayed as a 360-degree projection.
