Unemployment falls in Coventry

Coventry Editorial 29th Oct, 2017   0

UNEMPLOYMENT fell slightly in Coventry in September, but rose slightly in Warwickshire.

The number of claimants in Coventry fell by 45 to 4,255, but was up 100 in Warwickshire to 4,405.

But the city and the county are still performing better than the national average when it comes to unemployment figures.

Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We have seen a small, steady incline in the claimant count across the region as a whole and we have to monitor those figures.

“The region, generally, has relatively low unemployment and we do know of certain hot-spots where companies are struggling to recruit the right people and also certain sectors where businesses are crying out for workers.

“The key to ensuring our economy continues to grow and that unemployment continues to fall is ensuring that the labour market has the skills needed to fulfil the roles that are out there in business and that barriers to business growth are removed.”
