AN UNINSURED van carrying children has been taken off the roads as West Midlands Police continue round-the-clock work to keep the streets safe.
This week is Road Safety Week so the force are shining a light on the Roads Policing Unit.
Officers from the Road Harm Prevention Team were joined by partner agencies for a road safety operation in Handsworth last Thursday (November 14).
Sixteen vehicles were seized for being driven without insurance, including an uninsured van that was carrying children.
Elsewhere, the Road Crime Team pursued a cloned and stolen Nissan Juke that had been linked to a series of aggravated burglaries near Coventry.
Officers had to use tactical contact with the car after it failed to stop and was driven the wrong way down the M6 and both occupants were arrested.
The team also successfully tracked down a stolen car that had been taken at knifepoint. With the help of our brand-new ANPR Interceptors cars and the police helicopter, the vehicle was located in Selly Oak, and four suspects were arrested.
West Midlands Police are launching a new campaign in partnership with the PCC, encouraging people to send footage of careless and dangerous driving.
The campaign – ‘Record, Report, Result’ – is underway this week with a series of adverts and billboards across the region.
It forms part of Op Snap a national policing scheme which asks members of the public to submit footage of anyone committing driving offences, such as dangerous driving, using a mobile phone while driving, or not wearing a seatbelt.
