University Musical Theatre Society to stage original 'Pals' performance next month

Coventry Editorial 20th Apr, 2017   0

A GROUP of young performers from Coventry University’s Musical Theatre Society are to stage an original performance in May, written entirely by students.

Named Pals, the show will be performed at the Ellen Terry Theatre in Coventry from Wednesday (May 31) until Friday (June 2).

Pals focuses on a group of university alumni, who reluctantly return after five years for a reunion.

The story centres on the exploits of a small group of characters interlinked by past loves, jealousy and hilarity.

This is the first time the society has written and produced an original full scale musical in-house.

Music for the show, written by Jack Miles, will be performed by a live 13-piece orchestra and a 50 strong cast.

Jack said: “Having spent over two years developing the songs and plot, it’s a fantastic thing to have the opportunity to bring it to a local stage.

“I recruited a small team of student writers to create and edit the script.

“And alongside Jaque Durrant – who has done the orchestrations and is our conductor – I’m really proud of the result.”

Tickets for the show go on sale on Monday (May 1) priced £5 for general admission, £3 for concessions.
