AN ANNOUNCEMENT is expected to be made before midday today by Bees owner Mick Horton regarding the future of the Coventry Bees speedway team.
BSPA chairman Keith Chapman has apologised to fans, who for the last six days have been speculating whether the club will continue to run this season after a ‘final deadline’ passed with no official statement on Friday.
However Mr Chapman is hopeful an announcement will be made by Mick Horton before midday today.
Earlier this week, The Observer understood a temporary move to Leicester was being considered by Bees promoter Mick Horton.
However multiple riders and mechanics of the Bees told us they were unaware of any potential move.
An online poll ran by The Observer with more than 1,000 correspondents revealed just one in five fans were in favour of the potential move to Leicester.
Coventry Stadium has been hosting speedway since 1928, attracting crowds as large as 25,000 during the sport’s heyday between the 1950s and 1980s.
In recent seasons, the club has lifted the Elite League title (2010) and the Elite League Pairs (2010) as well as signing some of the world’s best riders including Russian Emil Sayfutdinov, Polish World Cup winner Krzysztof Kasprzak and Danish international Hans Andersen.
