THE MASSIVE fire at the Allesley Hotel in Coventry has now been extinguished.
But firefighters will remain at the scene, dampening down the property on Birmingham Road.
More than 50 firefighters, 12 engines and 10 support vehicles battled the blaze at its height. Fires were ablaze in various parts of the derelict three-storey former hotel.
Alongside high-powered water jets and crews wearing breathing apparatus, a specialist drone was used to support our firefighters in making safe and assertive decisions.
The fire broke out at 6.45am this morning, those living nearby were told to shut doors and windows. Birmingham Road was closed with drivers urged to avoid the area.
Doors and windows of local properties can now be reopened. But, intermittent closures of Birmingham Road will remain in place to allow our crews to continue their work safely.
Our fire investigation team is on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
West Midlands Fire Service said it was grateful to be assisted on scene by the police and partner services engineers as our crews tackled the blaze.
