A MAN has died after a serious incident on the M6 near Coventry this morning.

Ambulance crews were called at 4.58am to the M6 Southbound between junctions 3 and 2 and sent a paramedic officer and the Critical Care Car from The Air Ambulance Service to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they found a man on arrival, and it quickly became clear due to his injuries, nothing could be done to save him.

He was confirmed dead at the scene.

A large stretch of the M6 was closed after the serious crash with delays of two hours reported.

Initially the motorway was shut between Junction 3 (Coventry) and Junction 2 (for the M69).

The closure has now been extended.

The carriageway is currently shut between Junction 4a (M42) and Junction 2.

Highways officers warn those caught in the congestion are likely to be there for some time before they can get things moving due to the nature of the incident.

Anyone planning to use the route should find alternatives.
