POLICE are urgently trying to trace a young girl who is believed to have suffered injuries in a Coventry park.
A member of the public contacted officers last night (November 30) at around 8.30pm after seeing the youngster apparently self-harming in the War Memorial Park.
A police statement reads: “The girl was seen leaving through the park’s Leamington Road exit The girl, who is thought to be around 14, is believed to have left through the exit for Leamington Road.
“She is described as black and possibly of Somali origin. She was wearing a blue school uniform.
“A large number of officers and the police helicopter are searching for the youngster.”
Inspector Darren Lee, from the Locate team, said: “We urgently need to find this girl to make sure she gets the medical treatment and any other support she needs.
“We have been working through the night to trace her and that work continues this morning. We’re in contact with local schools this morning to try to identify the girl.
“While we are using all our resources to try to safeguard her, we really need the public’s help. We’re asking people to be vigilant, and would ask parents to check on their own children.
“If anyone has seen her, we need to hear from them as soon as possible.”
UPDATE:
West Midlands police have confirmed on Facebook that the girl has been found.
They posted: “#GOODNEWS – We have now found the girl who was seen in a distressed state in the #Coventry area last night.
“She is safe and well and is now being safeguarded.
“Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and contacted us with information.”
