A PUBLIC meeting about the world nuclear threat and the Ukraine invasion was held at the hall of the United Reform Church, Warwick Row, Coventry, on Saturday.
The Bishop of Coventry, The Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth and Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana were among the speakers.
Both shared their sadness about the invasion of Ukraine and shared their thoughts on the suffering of the people being forced to flee the country.
They also reflected on President Putin raising the nuclear threat level, adding events this month had proved wrong the long-stated truth the world was safer as peace was maintained by a ‘threat of mutually assured destruction’.
That threat by Mr Putin had also meant the greater invention by NATO had failed top protect Ukraine.
Both speakers called for more serious urgent discussions in the coming months and years, now that Russia’s declaration has shown the existence of nuclear weapons put everyone more at risk and not safer.
They agreed that ‘peace must me made and cannot just exist’.
A door collection raised £220 which will be donated through the Ukrainian Church in Coventry.
The organisers thanked everyone who turned out.
