Volunteers needed to maintain Keresley Jubilee Wood next Saturday

Coventry Editorial 13th Jan, 2023   0

KERESLEY Parish Council is seeking volunteers to maintain Jubilee Wood during its fourth community action day.

The maintenance event, organised by Coun Matthew Dille alongside other Keresley Parish Councillors, will take place between 10am and 3pm next Saturday, January 21.

The action days first started last year with Coventry Park Rangers, local schools, scout groups and volunteers undertaking various sessions to rejuvenate the green space.

The three-hectare wood in Watery Lane was created to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 with last year’s run of action days planned to return the area to its former glory for June’s Platinum Jubilee.

The parish council is collaborating with Coventry City Council’s Park Rangers who will provide equipment such as tools, gloves and goggles, guidance and drinks for volunteers.

Those wishing to volunteer should wear sensible footwear and clothes they do not mind getting dirty to protect them from brambles and thorns.

Previous work includes grass-cutting, litter-picking and the installation of new benches.

This weekends session could involve hazel coppicing, creating a bird feeding area, pruning back the apple trees and litter picking, depending on numbers.

Visit fb.me/e/37wAElnXz or email [email protected] to volunteer for the action day.
