Vote for businesses that puts community first in Cov Cares awards

Coventry Editorial 2nd Feb, 2023   0

COVENTRIANS are being urged to vote for the community-focused city centre businesses which bring them a sense of belonging at the first-ever Cov Cares awards.

Residents can nominate their favourite local business or employee for ten different categories, including ‘More Than Just a Bar or Nightclub’, ‘More Than Just a Cafe or Restaurant’, ‘More Than Just a Shop’ and ‘Community Champion’.

The awards’ organisers are looking for businesses or employees who focus on caring for the community, such as those who spend time getting to know regular customers, offer a warm welcome to those in need or notice when someone is struggling.

Grapevine, which developed the Cov Cares awards alongside several partners, first came up with the idea when lockdown restrictions began to be eased in April 2021.

The awards are part of a bid to plan a future where business plays a fundamental role in building a sense of belonging while rekindling connections on city streets that were lost during the pandemic.

The deadline for nominations is May 15, with the winners announced at an awards evening at Coventry University’s Square One entertainment venue on June 21.

Clare Wightman, Grapevine CEO, said: “Places and spaces where we can connect with friends, family, acquaintances and strangers are essential to feelings of belonging and wellbeing.”

Lyndsay Smith, from Coventry BID, added: “We are thrilled to be working on a project that will celebrate the elements of what makes great customer service.

“It will be a special moment in time to recognise those who make such an effort to positively influence visitors’ experiences.”
