HUNDREDS of people are expected to turn out to remember our fallen heroes as the War Memorial Park hosts its annual Remembrance Sunday Service.
The service will be held to honour, remember and pay respects to those who lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.
Members of the public are invited to attend the service which will feature a parade, hymns, readings and laying of the wreaths from 10.30am.
Led by The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, the Lord Bishop of Coventry, the day will also mark the 70th anniversary of the granting of the Freedom of Entry to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment to Coventry in 1946.
This year, the parade will be led by their successors, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
The Fusiliers Area Secretary, Major Cole said: “Coventry has been a long standing supporter of our Regiment and many of the city’s young men have served bravely in action with us.
“We are delighted to show our gratitude for this support and commitment.”
Also in attendance will be Coventry’s Lord Mayor, Coun Lindsley Harvard, who will lay wreaths and take the salute.
He said: “As a city of peace and reconciliation, it will always be important to pay our respects and remember all those who have lost their lives in or as a result of wars and armed conflict.”
Other guests will include ex-servicemen Sid Watson and Noel Doolan, the Lord Mayor’s Cadets, Reverend Asif Gill, Reverend Canon Father Thomas Farrell and Gordon Garland, Chairman of the Royal British Legion No.1 Branch.
The service will take place in Coventry’s War Memorial Park on Sunday, November 13.
Guests should assemble at the Cenotaph.
Members of the public are also welcome to attend the annual Communal Grave Service at London Road Cemetery at 3pm later the same day to remember the civilians who died during the Blitz in 1940.
