Wave of light services being held to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week

REMEMBRANCE services are being held in memory of stillborn babies.

Baby loss and stillborn charities will be holding a Wave of Light Service for all those who have lost a child before birth or in infancy to mark baby loss awareness week, which runs from October 9 to 15.

The Lily Mae Foundation founders Ryan and Amy Jackson – who lost their daughter Lily-Mae at birth – are inviting bereaved parents, children, family and friends to join them at St Mary’s Church in Temple Balsall from 6.45pm on October 15.

Parking for St Mary’s Church can be found at Fen End Road West, Temple Balsall, B93 0AN.

The Balsall Common based charity supports parents and families who have lost a baby to stillbirth, neonatal death, miscarriage or to a medical termination with memory boxes, one-to-one and group support meetings and groups dedicated to dads.

The charity will also be at a number of events to mark baby loss awareness week, including at Heartlands Hospital on October 9 and at Warwick Hospital from October 11.

Buildings across the region, including Birmingham Central Library, The Belfry, Leamington’s town hall and the Lily Mae offices in Balsall Common, will also be lit up in pink and blue in memory of the babies.

Amy and Ryan Jackson said: “Baby loss awareness week is an important time for bereaved parents and families to come together to remember their babies along with others who have experienced similar devastating losses.

“It is not just a time to remember our babies but it is also a time to raise awareness and address the taboo and stigma that is still surrounds baby loss.

“Services such as the wave of light service enable bereaved parents to meet and come together to honour their babies whilst offering peer support in a safe place.”
