A NEW project has been launched which aims to help Coventry become a child-friendly city.

Child-friendly Cov is a campaign to ensure the city is the best in the UK for children and young people to live and grow up in.

It aims to ensure children in Coventry have opportunities and feel happy, safe, healthy and valued.

Children and young people from schools across the city met with Coventry Council representatives and business leaders at St Mary’s Guildhall to celebrate its launch.

During the event, representatives from Positive Youth Foundation, Etch and Pin and McDonald’s gave presentations about the work already taking place to educate and empower the city’s young people.

The event also saw several powerful poems and raps from the young people, led by Coventry spoken word poet and rapper, John Bernard.

John Gregg, director of Children’s Services, said: “This campaign will make it clear to everyone that Coventry is a city where young people matter and are listened to.

“We hope it will inspire others to be a part of that, and inspire young people to get involved in city life.”
