ONE month remains for patients and relatives to nominate staff and volunteers at the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby or University Hospital in Coventry for a top award.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is calling for patients and relatives to nominate staff and volunteers at both of its hospitals for its annual Outstanding Service and Care Awards (OSCAs).

This is the 10th year that UHCW has run the OSCAs, which celebrate the achievements by staff and volunteers.

Last year, the Trust received over 460 nominations for staff and teams in a wide variety of roles across the Trust.

Six of the teams and individuals shortlisted for last year’s awards were nominated by patients.

These included Mandi Kirkman, a specialist nurse caring for patients who suffer problems or miscarriages in early pregnancy, who scooped the Compassion in Care award.

This year there are seven categories for public nominations.

With one month to go, the Trust has already received over 175 nominations.

Andy Hardy, chief executive officer of UHCW NHS Trust, said: “Our staff and volunteers do amazing things for patients and relatives on a daily basis.

“It’s wonderful to be able to recognise them each year at the OSCAs.

“I’d like to encourage any members of the public who have received outstanding care or service in the last 12 months to help us celebrate the staff responsible by nominating them for an award.”

Visit www.uhcw.nhs.uk/osca to nominate someone for the awards ceremony.

The closing date for nominations is midday on Friday (May 19).

The winners will be announced in September.

The award categories open for public nominations are:

Going the Extra Mile – for any member of staff who has gone over and above their role to improve care for patients or relatives.

Compassion in Care – for a frontline member of staff (e.g. nurse, doctor, physiotherapist) or team delivering patient care.

Behind the Scenes Team or Individual of the Year – for non-clinical staff providing an essential service such as finance, human resources or administration.

Innovation or Service Development – for staff whose innovative ideas or research have led to improvements in care.

Leader of the Year – for a member of staff who has demonstrated they are a good manager or leader.

Volunteer of the Year – for a volunteer at University Hospital or the Hospital of St Cross who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support to patients, staff or visitors.

Chief Executive Officer’s Award – for an individual or team who has made an exceptional contribution to the Trust.
