Wine expert jumps in the saddle to support choir

A WINE expert has jumped in the saddle to help a Warwick choir smash its £10,000 target to bring music to the masses.

Writer and presenter Oz Clarke cycled 200 miles from Coventry Cathedral to Bournemouth raising £12,000 to create 300 school choirs across the country.

He was supporting an initiative by music education charity Armonico Consort, which is based in Warwick.

On the ride the wine connoisseur joined 11 keen cyclists including choir artistic director Christopher Monks and singers.

Together they stopped at cafes and breweries to put on performances of live music in a bid to raise even more funds.

Mr Clarke said: “I was wet, cold, exhausted and aching all over when I arrived in Bournemouth, but I was happy. We did over 200 miles on the bikes and we raised over £12,000 and that means 1200 children will have singing in their schools next year.”
