'Wonderful' Coventry woman presented with Good Citizen Award for decades of community work

A ‘WONDERFUL’ Coventry woman who has dedicated years to helping others has been presented with a Good Citizen Award by the City Council.

Diane Tolley, of Canley, received the award from Lord Mayor Mal Mutton at a meeting of the Full Council.

Diane was chosen to receive the award because of her outstanding work in the community, being an advocate for others and devoting countess hours to improving local services for everyone.

For over 45 years, Diane has volunteered in Canley and is the Chair of the Canley Stakeholder Group where she has been described as a ‘lynchpin for her neighbourhood’ and a ‘voice for the voiceless’, helping bring countless people together.

As a Patient Representative, Dianne has helped the NHS with the roll-out of the 111 helpline and spent several years sharing a Coventry perspective with the Secretary of State for Heath.

During the pandemic, she was a Community Messenger and helped in a vaccination centre. Diane also regularly addresses hundreds of people at Warwick Medical School about the importance of dignity and compassion for patients and those around them.

Since 2013, Diane has also been a ‘Bus Champion’, helping to spread the word about network changes to those in the community, and taking feedback to the companies’ senior management.

The Lord Mayor said: “Diane is a wonderful citizen and shines brightly in her community.

“Diane never gives up trying to work with others and always wants the best for the community and especially the residents.

“She is a worthy recipient of this Coventry Good Citizen Award.”
