RESIDENTS in a Hillfields neighbourhood have been working with Coventry City Council and Citizen to address concerns over fly-tipping in the area.
People who live in Vernon Close, Brook Close, Vauxhall Close, Gilbert Close, Days Close and Spring Close have become increasingly concerned about an area around their homes which had become a fly-tipping hotspot.
The fly-tipping has since been removed and overgrown hedges were cut back to create a better access way.
The council is set to meet with Citizen and residents in the new year to find a longer-term solution to the problem.
The project is part of a wider plan to invest in the St Michaels Estate with an aim to tackling anti-social behaviour, increasing safety and improving the community’s green spaces.
Coun Abdul Salam Khan, the cabinet member for policing and community safety, said: “Residents are fed up with the impact fly-tipping has on their neighbourhoods and we know many want to work with us – whether it’s to report incidents anonymously or to help keep the area tidy.
“I’m pleased about some of the steps we have been able to take.”
