World champion cyclist set to start Coventry bike ride

WORLD champion cyclist Sam Ruddock will be kicking off Cov’s Big Bike Ride this Sunday alongside city Lord Mayor Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi.

The free event starts at 11am at Broadgate with a total of 10km of cycling routes open to ride until 3pm.

Sam, who is an Ambassador for British Cycling’s Limitless disability and para-cycling programme, will arrive in Broadgate at 10.45am.

He will complete the first 2km loop of the route before spending some time at Charterhouse.

Sam’s list of achievements winning Gold at the 2022 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Paris and C1 Kilo, Gold and C1 Omnium, and Bronze at this year’s Cycling World Championships in Glasgow.

He has also represented Team GB in athletics at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.




Sam Ruddock, West Midlands Para-cycling World Champion, said: “I’m really passionate about inspiring more people to ride in the West Midlands and can’t wait to meet everyone at Cov’s Big Bike Ride this weekend.

“There are so many activities to get involved with through the day and a brilliant weather forecast too, so it’s the perfect opportunity to get the family together and explore the city by bike.”


Each stop along Sunday’s cycle route will have free activities including stunt bike shows, Dr Bike clinics, sports challenges and face painting.

Cyclists of all ages and abilities will be able to take the route from the city centre out to the new Binley segregated cycleway, and a bike hire service is available.
