WARWICK Castle is seeking daredevils with a head for heights to take part in a charity abseil on Sunday (September 27).
Fundraisers must be over 18 to participate in the 29-metre abseil which will raise money for two children’s charities – the local Molly Olly’s Wishes and international Merlin’s Magic Wand.
Molly Olly’s Wishes is a Warwick-based charity that provides emotional and financial support to children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses and their families and was setup in memory of brave Molly Ollerenshaw who lost her five-year battle with cancer when she was just eight years old.
Merlin’s Magic Wand is a worldwide charity that arranges magical days out at Merlin Entertainments attractions, such as Legoland Resorts®, Sea Life Centres and Madame Tussauds.
To take part in the rare opportunity, wannabe abseilers will have to bid for one of the limited 80 places – with bids starting at £50.
Geoff Spooner, General Manager at Warwick Castle said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Warwick Castle from a different angle, as well as a chance to raise money for two worthy causes.
“Guy’s Tower commands views over Warwick and the surrounding countryside so this is set to be a truly spectacular challenge for the 80 brave abseilers.”
A Molly Olly’s Wishes spokesperson added: “Molly Olly’s Wishes is delighted to join the team at Warwick Castle and The Mayor of Warwick to raise funds for children needing support.
“The children that we support with terminal and life threatening illnesses are incredibly brave and face new challenges on a daily basis.
“The idea of abseiling down the Tower is daunting for most but we reckon if the children have to be brave then so can we.
“We are very grateful to The Castle and The Mayor for their very generous support. “
The event takes place from 10am-5pm on Sunday (September 27) with 12 participants per hour using two descent lines.
One free photo will be taken from the top of the 14th century Tower as each abseiler begins their descent and each participant will be able to take two supporters into the Castle for the day, for free.
