TALENTED Coventry youngster Freya Baker-Duffin has won an Eduqas Moving Image Award for her powerful short film raising awareness of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD.)

Freya, who goes to Finham Park School, scooped the ‘One to Watch’ prize for her short film ‘Driven to Despair.’

The film depicts a girl with OCD who rigidly sticks to situations she knows she can control.

It also explores her dealing with the panic caused by her OCD and reaching a form of enlightenment.

Freya received her award at a ceremony last month at the British Film Institute in London.

The awards, now in their ninth year, allow students taking part in Eduqas qualifications in Film and Media Studies and to submit their work for consideration by a panel of judges for accolades, including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Music Video.

Judges praised Freya’s work for its soundtrack, editing, and central performance.

Freya has dealt with OCD and anxiety personally and said she wanted to show a journey of dealing with compulsions as authentically as she could.

She added: “This has been such a great experience. I think it’s really important to make something personal to you and care a lot about.

“I’ve always written short stories, but I decided to base this project on OCD – I wanted to create something that people could relate to.”
