Youngsters get in the groove with stars from Strictly Come Dancing

Ian Hughes 18th Jul, 2017

YOUNGSTERS got in the groove with stars from Strictly.
Pupils from St Elizabeth’s Primary School in Coventry had a day to remember when Strictly Come Dancing’s newest stars, AJ and Chloe, took their dance workshop at Warwick Arts Centre.
The 15 youngsters have been creating a dance routine as part of a major new musical adaptation of the Beowulf fantasy saga, to be performed in October.
The project has been specially devised by Warwick-based choir and instrumental ensemble Armonico Consort as part of its education programme AC Academy which reaches 15,000 young people a year.
The Beowulf story is being set to music by Armonico Consort’s composer-in-residence, Toby Young, who has previously worked with Duran Duran and The Rolling Stones.
AJ Pritchard and Chloe Hewitt first came to fame when they reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2013 and, this year, the pair became the youngest professional dancers to join BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing.
Chloe said: “It’s been a fantastic day working with all the kids on their routines ready for the show. They’re so full of energy and excitement.” AJ added, “We’re loving all their positive energy, it’s been fantastic to see their choreography and watch them perform. We can’t wait to see how the show goes.”
The young dancers will finally get to show off their routine at Coventry’s Albany Theatre on October 13. They will perform alongside world-renowned singer Elin Manahan Thomas and harpist Catrin Finch, Armonico Consort’s professional singers and musicians, and members of AC Academy choirs.
As well as the Coventry date, Beowulf will be performed in Solihull and Worcester.
