Youngsters joined at Longford park for tree planting

YOUNGSTERS from a local Primary School got their wellies and spades out as they took part in some tree planting at Longford Park.

Pupils at Longford Park Primary School planted trees as well as learning about the natural world and protecting the environment.

The event was part of Coventry City Council’s pledge to plant a tree for every Coventrian.

And the youngsters were joined by Coventry North East MP Colleen Fletcher and the council’s cabinet member for climate change, Coun Jim O’Boyle.

Mrs Fletcher said it was great to see the children getting their hands dirty by helping out, adding they were amazingly knowledgeable about trees and how to properly plant them.

The school plan to return to the park to plant some more trees in the coming weeks.

Coun O’Boyle added: “These schemes go a long way both to helping achieve our aim to plant a tree for each resident in Coventry but also underlines and emphasises our commitment to tackling climate change in our city.

“Young people are the future of our city so to see them getting stuck in bodes well for the future.”
