COVENTRY United’s under-10s won the Aces National Tournament held at the Riverside Sports Complex in Nottingham.
A total of 15 teams, all of whom were league or cup winners from their respective county FAs, entered the fray including squads from Newcastle, Barnsley, Nottingham, Norwich, Walsall, Leicester, London and Peterborough.
All were battling it out to become champions of England at U10 level.
Coventry won their group to progress into the quarter-finals where they faced London’s representatives.
After the score was locked at 0-0, it was left for penalties to settle the tie.
After missing their first two spot-kicks, somehow United prevailed to progress into the semi-finals where they took on Hinckley.
In a close encounter Hinckley edged the better of the chances but once again it was penalties which was needed to separate the two sides.
And for a second time it was United who came out on top to secure a place in the final against Peterborough.
Peterborough broke the deadlock with a bullet header from a corner to take a 1-0 lead into half-time.
A fired up Coventry responded and left it late to equalise and force another penalty shoot-out.
Coventry’s goalkeeper once again provided the heroics as United sealed the win to become national champions.
