FOOTBALL: ALVIS Sporting gained an invaluable point in Birmingham on Tuesday night when sharing four goals with highly rated and promotion candidates Paget Rangers in the Midland League Division Two.

Daniel Carter, the leading marksman in the Midland League, put the home side in front with his 33rd goal of the season, but Alvis struck back before the break with captain Michael Quirke converting from the penalty spot.

Alvis went ahead in the second half through Dildale Linton only for veteran striker Mark Bellingham to score the equaliser from the penalty spot in the closing stages. The point gained by Alvis maintained their unbeaten run and strengthened their Midland League title aspirations.

Alvis manager Damian Cassidy said: “We adapted well to the 3G pitch and considering that this was only our third league game of 2017, and that we played half an hour with ten men I was very pleased with the hard won point.”
