HOCKEY: A POOR start proved to be Coventry & North Warwickshire’s downfall as they failed to recover from going three goals down at home to Stratford on Saturday.
Coventry suffered a torrid and head a mountain to climb as they found themselves 3-0 down with just 20 minutes played, and despite showing plenty of fight, they eventually fell to a 3-2 defeat in the Midland League Division Two.
It took Stratford just one minute to take the lead when a short corner was bundled home and ten minutes later poor defending allowed the visitors to double their advantage.
Dom Bell almost pulled one back from a short corner before Stratford scored a third when a short corner of their own was well dispatched.
George Hollingsworth very nearly scored from a good strike which sailed inches wide, but bounced back to convert a neat pass into the direction of Bell who made up for his earlier miss to make it 3-1 at the break.
Apart a few well defended short corners, Stratford did not offer too much threat after the break and instead pressure on their goal began to build up and in the final few minutes Waqas Akbar scored Coventry’s second but there was to be no late equaliser.
