COVENTRY Godiva Harriers sent a strong team of athletes to the National Cross Country Championships in London.
In the senior women’s race, Sophie Hurst led Godiva home to become club champion with a 44th place finish overall.
Hurst hugely improved on her performance from just years ago when she finished 218th.
Behind Hurst, Dewi Dankmeyer in 678th, Flavie Rasson in 787th and Angelica Leyva in 810th saw the women’s team finish 72nd overall on 2,319 points.
In the senior men’s race, Joe McLeod took the club championship crown after finishing an impressive 182nd in a huge field of athletes.
He was followed by Teklay Alemu in 427th, David Cooper in 548th, Sam Marshall in 591st, Clark Roberts in 689th and Peter Eccleston in 729th.
The A team finished 47th overall on 3,166 points.
The men also had a nine-man team as Hossein Mohammadiha in 755th, Matthew Hadlum in 763rd and Will Averill in 791st helped Godiva finish 28th overall on 5,470 points.
Also finishing the race were Michael Todd 842nd, James Wright 878th, Anthony Mitrofaniuk 976th, Iain Souttar 1,033rd, Chris Hurst 1,059th, Jason Brotherhood 1,119th, Waising Yip 1,270th , Sam Katanda 1,297th, Lee Connelly 1,461st, Nathan Jones 1,590th, John Treadwell 1,620th, Martin Gittins 1,762nd and Gary Flude in 1,774th.
The club also entered teams in the under-15 girls’ and boys’ races as well as the under-17 women’s race and under-20 men’s and women’s races.
