ATHLETICS - Coventry Godiva Harriers finish cross country league season

COVENTRY Godiva Harriers ladies team produced their best score of the season despite suffering relegation to Division Two of the Midland Women’s Cross Country League.

In the final fixture of the season at Burton Dassett Hills, Freya Bennett led the team home in 16th closely followed by Sophie Hurst in 17th place.

And Sammy Puri in 70th and Jayne Mumford in 129th (62nd master) ensured the ladies finished on 232 points – their highest score in a single fixture this season.

Club runners Sophia Charters in 130th, Jodie Greenfield in 144th, Shona Murray in 148th (23rd junior) and Flavie Rasson in 158th also completed the race.

The ladies ‘best of three’ saw Puri sit 63rd in the league with Mumford 101st (51st master) and Charters in 110th with Murray 17th junior overall.

And the club’s men’s squad were in action in Northampton as Dan Clarke led the team home in 31st (fifth master) with Scott Hudspith in 33rd place.

Further back, Joe McLeod in 56th, Kevin Otieno in 81st (19th junior), Andy Boon in 82nd (16th master) and Clark Roberts in 104th (26th master) completed the A team scoring.




The A team finished on 387 points to place ninth on the day and 10th for the season with the club to remain in Division One next term.

Running for the B team. Adam Jackson in 108th (21st junior), David Cooper in 133rd, Matt Hadlum in 135th, Tom Beesley in 144th on debut, Peter Eccleston in 145th (48th master) and Michael Todd in 154th (54th master) helped the team to a sixth place finish on the day and for the season with the masters fifth.


Further back, Jason Brotherhood in 155th (55th master), Sam Katanda in 158th (58th master), William Chalmers in 160th (28th junior), Richard Todd in 165th (63rd master) and Chris Hurst in 167th (65th master) saw the masters B team in fifth place overall.

Also completing the race were Muhammed Ibrahim in 172nd, Wasing Yip in 174th (70th master), John Treadwell in 181st (75th master), Jose in 182nd (76th master), Martin Gittins in 184th (78th master), Nathan Jones in 189th, Matthew Danes in 200th (92nd master) and Gary Flude in 201st (93rd master).

Following the conclusion of the races, Jodie Greenfield claimed the ladies handicap title while Matt Danes and Kevin Otieno shared the men’s trophy.
