COVENTRY Godiva Harriers’ women’s team won bronze at the prestigious Midland Cross-Country Championships.
The club’s senior women’s team finished on the podium at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
Sophie Hurst led the women home in fifth place with Amelia Starling 16th, Alicia Roberts 39th and team manager Jayne Mumford 79th with Dewi Dankmeyer close behind in 88th.
This left the women’s A team on 139 points and a coveted bronze medal.
And Godiva’s senior men’s team initially won team bronze in their race with Scott Hudspith 25th, Joe McLeod 31st, Teklay Alemu 61st, James Wright 67th, David Cooper 84th and Clark Roberts 86th.
However, after scoring 354 points, the team were informed due to an error they had in fact finished just outside of the medals in fourth place.
Roberts did at least come away with individual bronze in the M35 category.
Godiva’s masters athletes also won team bronze, led home by Roberts, with Peter Eccleston 95th, Michael Todd 112th, Ben Tran 131st, Joe Chalmers 132nd and Ant Mitrofaniuk 135th.
The highlights from Coventry’s young runners saw Dougie Garnett finish ninth in the under-17 men’s race while the under-15 boys’ finished seventh in the team standings.
There were also strong runs from Matt Hadlum 103rd, Tom Beesley 114th, Iain Souttar 139th, Jason Brotherhood 141st, Sam Katanda 142nd, Waising Yip 143rd, Dale Ball 159th, Lee Connelly 167th, John Treadwell 181st, Nathan Jones 185th and Martin Gittings 214th.
