ATHLETICS - Godiva Harriers star Emmerson secures top-10 finish at National Cross Country Championships

COVENTRY Godiva Harriers athlete Julie Emmerson secured a top-10 finish at the prestigious National Cross Country Championships at Bolesworth Castle in Chester.

Emmerson was crowned club champion for 2023 after she came home eighth in 30 minutes 29 seconds in a field of 773 runners in the senior women’s race.

She was closely followed by Alice Flint in 52nd who finished in 32 mins 37 secs with Amelia Starling 134th in 35 mins 6 secs and Sophie Hurst 218th in 37 mins 17 secs to complete the A team.

This meant the ladies finished 13th overall out of 233 teams with Jayne Mumford 540th, Rachel Aldrich 570th, Dewi Dankmeyer 576th and Sophia Charters 579th further back.




In the senior men’s race Will Fuller became Godiva’s men’s club champion as he finished 139th in a time of 40 mins 14 secs with Scott Hudspith just behind in 183rd in 40 mins 51 secs.

Completing the A team lineup were Oliver Paulin 276th in 42 mins 5 secs, Joe McLeod 277th in 42 mins 6 secs, Harvey Speed 428th in 44 mins 24 secs and Daniel Dalton 483rd in 44 mins 59 secs which meant the men finished 27th overall out of 313 teams.


Fellow Godiva athletes Sam Marshall 515th, David Cooper 676th, Will Averill 716th, Michael Todd 734th, Matt Hadlum 955th, Joe Chalmers 993rd, Nathan Jones 994th, Richard Todd 1,146th, Jose Ortiz Gonzalez 1,197th, Simon Clarke 1,255th, Muhammad Ibrahim 1,276th and Garry Flude 1432nd all completed the course.

The club’s under-17 runners also took to the course as Adam Jackson led Godiva’s men home in 160th with Will Chalmers 206th and Jonathan Davidson 244th whilst Kevin Otieno placed 151st in the junior men’s race.

And in the junior women’s race Rhea Porwal placed 127th with Lamita Abbas just behind in 128th.
