COVENTRY GODIVA HARRIERS athlete Reece Middleton won gold in the 400 metres at the Welsh Indoor Athletics Championships with Jonathan Knox taking bronze.

Middleton became Welsh Indoor Senior Men’s champion in a time of 50.07 seconds with Knox just behind in 50.59 seconds at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.

That came after both athletes had won their respective heats to qualify for the final, with Middleton four seconds quicker than his rivals in the opening heat to win in a time of 50.47 seconds.

And Knox was also victorious in his heat, finishing less than five hundredths of a second quicker than his closest rival in second to take the spoils in 51.27 seconds.

Both Middleton and Knox ran quicker times in the final, with fastest qualifier Middleton coming home ahead of Mitchell Lawrence of Swansea Harriers and Knox taking the bronze.
