SIAN Rainsley won silver for Great Britain as part of the mixed relay triathlon team at the European Games in Krakow, Poland.
The Coventry triathlete anchored the team home to secure Britain’s second ever triathlon medal at the prestigious European Games alongside Barclay Izzard, Sophie Alden and Connor Bentley.
And the 26-year-old showed excellent pace to complete the 300m swim, 5km cycle and 1.5km run just four seconds behind gold medallists Norway and seven seconds clear of Hungary who took bronze.
Rainsley said: “It was incredible coming down the blue carpet. I love racing with these guys and to come home with a medal at the end of the Games is really cool.”
That came after Rainsley was just outside the top-10 in the elite women’s race as the former Youth Olympic silver medallist crossed the line in 11th place.
Rainsley will now be turning her attention to this month’s AJ Bell World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland as she prepares to take on the world’s best triathletes on home soil.
She is based at Leeds Triathlon Performance Centre and has previously won mixed relay gold at under-23 level and bronze at the European Triathlon Championships in 2021.
