Blaze bring in East Coast Hockey League stars as Bombis and Carnevale depart

DANNY Stewart has made two team changes ahead of the Blaze’s three-game weekend in Scotland after it was confirmed this morning both Bjorn Bombis and Taylor Carnevale have left the club.

The departure of Bombis comes after the German skater recorded seven points from his 13 games with the Blaze while Taylor Carnevale played just five games for the Skydome outfit, contributing with three assists.

In their place, Stewart has confirmed the capture of American forwards Barry Almeida and T.J. Syner – who are both cousins both family marriage.

Both Almeida and Syner were signed to play in The Alps league this season with Italian club Sherdëina, however both departed after just a handful of games.

Almeida has won seven championships during his career, and in the 2007-’08 season he was selected in the USHL first all-star team.

Since then, the 27-year-old has spent four years at the prestigious Boston College of the NCAA – teaming up with now NHL players Chris Kreider and Johnny Gaudreau.

Furthermore, Almeida was the leading scorer for East Coast Hockey League side Utah Grizzlies last season with 29 goals and 19 assists in 58 regular games.

Syner, 28, also comes from a strong hockey background having lifted the Kelly Cup with the Reading Royals in 2012-’13.

Both players hold left hand shots and both have played the majority of their careers alongside each other having grown up together in Springfield.

The Blaze have wished both Bombis and Carnevale the best in the future and thanked them for their efforts.
