ICE HOCKEY: DANNY Stewart admits he can’t afford to ‘freak out’ despite Blaze’s concerning run of form that has seen the club drop to tenth in the Elite League.
Blaze are six points short of the final playoff spot – currently occupied by Braehead – with one game in hand.
Seven losses on the spin means Blaze are in danger of missing out of the end of season playoffs for only the second time in the club’s history following last year’s league flop.
Despite going three weeks without a win, Stewart told the Observer: “Everyone is freaking out on the outside and I’ve got to hold the ship together, that’s my job.
“It’s not easy. We don’t have a large amount of staff when it comes to coaching.
“So it’s down to me with the help of my leaders. There’s no magic wand, we’ve got to find a way through.”
Games don’t get any easier for Stewart’s men as a lengthy trip to Fife on Saturday is followed by a home tie to Patton Conference rivals Milton Keynes Lightning.
Stewart said: “It’s frustrating. But it’s down to me to keep my stuff together. I can’t freak out.”
