BOWLS - Warwickshire Women triumph in annual men versus ladies match

WARWICKSHIRE Women claimed the bragging rights after winning 104-85 in the annual men versus ladies Warwickshire County Bowls Association match at Lillington Bowling Club.

The ladies made a strong start and went on to secure a convincing victory as Jenny Corn with Pat Gagg (both Lillington), Pat Lowe (Rugby Thornfield) and Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) had the highest winning rink by a 26-9 scoreline.

Debbie Bloxham with Vivienne Belt (both Stratford), Caroline Edwards (RLS) and Donna Kerr (Lillington) also made a strong start but led by a single shot after 15 ends before taking eight shots over the next two sends to secure a 20-12 victory.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Celia Bellamy (Warwick Boat Club), Jayne Henfrey (Lillington) and Heather Mills (Grange Ladies) won 19-12 after taking five shots at the 17th end.

Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Caroline Harris (Nuneaton), Lynne Innes and Jean Williams (Stratford) were level at five ends but went on to win 18-13 with another strong performance.

Mary Wheildon (Warwick Boat Club) with Dawn Horne (RLS), Di Medhurst (Nuneaton) and Linda Linney (Stratford) were trailing were 7-1 down at the fifth end only to draw level at 10 ends before eventually slipping to an 18-12 defeat.




Chris Cooke with Heather Tredgold (Southam), Pippa Mace (Lillington) and Jenny Wickens (RLS) were up against tough opposition and suffered a 21-9 defeat.

Men’s county president, David Wigman, presented the ladies’ county president, Donna Kerr, with the Rose Bowl.
