BOWLS - Warwickshire Women triumph in Middle England League clash against Leicestershire

WARWICKSHIRE Women beat local rivals Leicestershire 136-107 in a hard fought game at Nuneaton BC in the Middle England League.

Highest winning rink went to skip Gill Maund (Sherwood Park) with Jacqui Ashley (Warwick Boat Club), Donna Kerr (Lillington) and Yvonne Bromfield (Rugby Thornfield) after storming to a 29-8 victory.

Sue Hornsby (Lillington) with Lynne Innes (Stratford), Di Medhurst (Nuneaton) and Jenny Wickens (RLS) led by a single shot after five ends before six shots on the eighth end saw them pull away to win 26-8 in their contest.

Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) with Liz Wooding (Avenue Coventry), Wendy Holloway (Welford) and Pat Moore (Three Spires) raced into a 12-2 lead after eight ends and eventually secured a 29-18 success.

Jenny Corn with Pat Gagg (both Lillington), Gillian Greenbank and Ros Taylor (Avenue Coventry) were 5-1 ahead after five ends only to trail by four shots at the 11th end before producing a stirring comeback to win 23-21 in a thrilling encounter.

Moira Parsons (Welford) with Elspeth Summers (Stratford), Dawn Horne and Janice White (both RLS) were level at 13-all after 16 ends before slipping to a 19-17 defeat despite picking up three shots on the last end.




Lastly, Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Trish Jarvis (Wolvey), Lily-Mae Adams and Joy Cooke (both Sherwood Park) were under pressure throughout their match as they fell to a 33-12 defeat.

County president, Donna Kerr (Lillington), brought an end to the day by presenting a county badge to Jacqui Ashley (Warwick Boat Club).
