BOXING - Coventry fighter Goldsmith determined to become a champion

BRAD Goldsmith plans to put his name on the wall of a world-famous boxing gym, writes Matt Bozeat.

Goldsmith has his seventh pro fight in Leicester on March 11 and believes that by the end of the year, he will be fighting for a title.

The 24-year-old middleweight is convinced he’s going all the way to the top of the boxing world and has the right team behind him to get him there.

Goldsmith is based at the Ingles’ gym in Sheffield that has produced Prince Naseem Hamed, Kell Brook, Johnny Nelson and many more champions.

Goldsmith served his amateur apprenticeship at Triumph ABC in Coventry before relocating to Sheffield – and says he’s going to be another champion from the Ingles’ gym.

Goldsmith said: “I know I have the capabilities to be a world champion and I say that with confidence.

“I know I have the attitude and the dedication needed. The only thing that can stop me is myself.

“I know my career is in safe hands.

“There’s a Hall of Fame on the wall of the gym that lists all the champions that have come out of the Ingles’ gym.

“There are British, Commonwealth, European and world champions – and one day, I will be on that list, I have no doubt about it.

“I know the history of the gym. Growing up, I would watch whatever boxing was on and so I saw Kell Brook and watched videos of Prince Naseem Hamed.

“It’s hard to watch boxing and not watch Ingles’ boxers.

“I never thought I would end up training there. I treated boxing as a bit of fun until I was 16 or 17 and that’s when I started thinking to myself: ‘I could have a good go at this.’

“Now I’m at the Ingles’ gym I know I belong there. Dominic is putting his time into me for a reason. He must see some potential in me and he knows how dedicated I am.”

Goldsmith reckons 2023 will he a huge year for him.

He said: “I’m looking to make a bit of noise this year. I want to announce myself.

“This next fight should be a tougher opponent and I’m hoping it will be my last six round fight. I know I need to do a bit more groundwork before I go looking for titles, but by the end of the year I want a belt around my waist.”

Goldsmith has hundreds of fans following him on his journey.

“I’m not just a ticker seller,” he said. “I do sell a lot of tickets – but I can fight too.”
