HUEY Malone, from Coventry, is hoping to achieve a place in the Olympic qualifiers later this year with a strong performance in the inaugural World Boxing Cup.
Malone will fight for Great Britain at the World Boxing Cup: GB Open – Sheffield 2024 which takes place from January 17 to 20 at the English Institute of Sport.
And light-welterweight Malone hopes to showcase his skills at the tournament with an eye on securing a place in the Olympic qualifiers which take place in March.
Malone said: “Everything has been going well so far, I’ve been training over Christmas.
“I’m just trying to showcase my skills back home in England, my foot pressure and my defence.
“You can feel the buzz around the gyms at home and there will be support there for everyone.
“If I impress the coaches then hopefully I can get a spot [in the Olympic qualifiers].
“I just want to be active and gain some international experience and I want to be fighting around the world.”
More than 100 boxers from 16 countries will take part in the event which is only the fourth elite, multi-nation, Olympic-style boxing competition to take place in Great Britain since London 2012.
The tournament acts as one of the final tune-up events before the upcoming Olympic boxing qualifier in Milan (4 – 11 March) later this year where Paris 2024 spots will be up for grabs.
