ICE HOCKEY: BRETT Robinson will return for another season at the Skydome after Coventry Blaze coach Danny Stewart confirmed the popular forward has signed on for another season.

The 32-year-old, who has led the club for point-scoring in Elite League competitions in each of the last two years, will return for a third season with the team.

In his debut Elite League campaign, Robinson was named Coach’s Player of the Year and scored 26 goals.

Last year, Robinson again sat high up the point-scoring chart with 13 goals to add to his 36 assists in all EIHL games.

In February, he became the tenth quickest player of all-time to reach 100 points for Coventry in the Elite League.

Having played over 340 games in the East Coast Hockey League prior to joining Blaze, Robinson scored the Kelly Cup clinching goal with Cincinatti Cyclones in 2009/10.

Blaze coach Danny Stewart said: “It’s great to have Brett back.

“I think he’s a fantastic hockey player.

“He’s good all over the ice.

“He reads the game well, he’s smart defensively, he’s on the penalty kill and he’s good at face-off’s.

“We saw his versatility last year too and how important that was when he dropped back and looked like he’d played defence his whole career.

“On top of all that you can’t deny his production.

Soon father to be Robinson said: “I’m very excited to be returning to the Coventry Blaze for the 2017/18 season.

“Obviously no one was happy with how our season went last year and I’m coming back to turn things around as a team and personally.”
