Brinklow under-14's sign off with win to finish fourth

Coventry Editorial 30th Apr, 2019   0

BRINKLOW under-14’s ended their season on a high with a 2-1 victory against Rugby Town Valley Saints in the Coventry & Warwickshire Youth League Division D.

Their latest win extends their unbeaten home record to six months, despite the doggedness of Valley Saints in counter-acting Brinklow’s attacking threat.

Rugby’s game plan initially worked, despite Arjun-Veer Singh Sembi clattering the bar, whilst Harrison Berridge and Ryan Prior wasted good opportunities.

With the scores level at the break, Brinklow went up another gear and eventually went ahead, when Kye Gilbey’s solo run past five defenders ended with a cool finish into the corner.

It was the goal the hosts needed to claim a strong foothold in the game, and allowed Harry Shorten the opportunity to crash home a 25-yard strike into the net.

Will Rees was unlucky with a driven effort that narrowly cleared the bar, as Saints brought the game back into contention through Tom Crump’s goal on the rebound.

Both sides enjoyed chances in the closing moments, but Brinklow held out to secure a fourth place finish in the division.

Elsewhere at the club, Brinklow’s under-13’s are appealing for new players to join their team.

U13’s manager Dan Mallinson talked up his current side and is excited by the team’s chances moving forward.

“I’ve got a great team of talented players, who went all the way to the semi-finals of the cup this year and pushed on in our league performances.

“We are moving from nine to 11 players and would like to get more players to come and join in the development for next season that’s provided by our experienced and qualified coaches.”

Interested players must be born between September 1 2006, to August 31 2007, whilst trials will be held on Thursday May 2nd, 9th and 16th at Barr Lane in Brinklow, CV23 0LU – starting at 7:30pm.
