BTCC - Coventry's Tom Ingram secures triple podium in first weekend of new BTCC season

TOM Ingram enjoyed a fine start to the 2025 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season after securing three podium finishes at Donington Park.

Coventry driver Ingram finished second in all three races for Droitwich-based Team VERTU who also lead the teams standings.

Ingram’s teammate Tom Chilton also claimed victory in race three with Team VERTU ahead of NAPA Racing UK by virtue of the finishing positions in the final race of the weekend.

And Ingram sits second in the drivers’ standings after the opening weekend of the season after finishing as runner-up in last year’s competition.

Ingram said: “This season will be one where you can’t adopt the kind of approach of always being in the top six – now we realistically need to be pushing for the podium each weekend.

“It’s going to be a very competitive season, but we have started it strongly, which is ultimately what we needed to do.

“Clearly, we were very strong, as were NAPA Racing, but we know that there are others on the grid who are going to improve as the season goes on and the impact of the new turbo boost rules really takes effect.

“We’ve made our performance count this weekend to pick up three strong results, and I’m really pleased for Tom to get the win as he deserved it.”

Ingram engaged in a battle for the lead with eventual race winner Ash Sutton in the first race of the new season.

The Coventry driver hauled his Hyundai onto the rear bumper of Sutton’s machine as the latter driver held on to win the opening race of the season.

And Sutton held off Ingram again in race two as the two drivers both laid down early markers to launch a title challenge.

Ingram completed a hat-trick of second-place finishes in the final race as teammate Chilton took top spot on the podium.

The BTCC season continues at Brands Hatch on the weekend of May 10 and 11.
