SPEEDWAY: ONE of the most famous clubs in British speedway is on the lookout for a new main sponsor after Buildbase ended a remarkable run of 13 successive seasons with the Coventry Bees.

Buildbase have relinquished their title role as main sponsors of the Brandon-based club ahead of the new SGB Premiership campaign after first taking on the role back in 2004.

They will still be supporting the team this season but the Bees appealing for any potential team sponsors to come forward and lead the team at the beginning of a new era for British Speedway.

The news comes just weeks after it was confirmed that the Bees will begin the 2017 campaign with their meetings taking place 29 miles at Leicester Speedway.

Promoter Mick Horton has been involved in a bitter off-season dispute with Coventry Stadium owners Brandon Estates Ltd.

He said: “Buildbase have been incredible sponsors for the club dating right back to 2004, and we’re very grateful that they will still be with us this season.

“But this is now a big opportunity for others to get involved in title sponsorship, which is an area that would not have appeared available over the last 13 years or so.

“Naturally we would be delighted to hear from any interested parties, and we will be happy to discuss all aspects of a partnership with the club.

“It’s no secret that we face probably the toughest start to a season yet given the winter uncertainty, which has also left us with a short period of time to put everything in place.

“It’s imperative that we have the fans and sponsors on board with us in order to make a success of 2017 and also build for the long-term future of the club.”
