Coventry-based Harris earns Team GB call-up for Speedway World Cup

SPEEDWAY: COVENTRY-based speedway racer Chris Harris was named as one of five riders to represent Team GB at this weekend’s Monster Energy Speedway World Cup Event One at Kings Lynn.

Harris, who represented the now homeless Coventry Bees for 11 years throughout his 19 year speedway career, will be back in the international spotlight after exiting the Grand Prix series following a poor 2016 campaign.

The 34-year-old Truro-born rider was selected by Team GB boss Alun Rossiter and will join newly crowned British Champion Craig Cook, promising youngster Robert Lambert, youngster Adam Ellis, and Steve Worrall.

Team GB will face Czech Republic, USA, and Australia in Event One with the winning team progressing directly through to the World Cup Final – which takes place on Saturday, July 8, in Leszno, Poland.

Rossiter’s team’s biggest threat is likely to come from Australia who track World Championship contenders Jason Doyle and Chris Holder as well as Troy Batchelor, Max Fricke and Nick Morris.

The runner up on the night will join the third place team in Thursday, July 7, night’s race-off.
