COVENTRY Bears can add trips to Ottawa and New York to their league itinerary next season, after it was announced that two new teams have applied to join the English Rugby League structure.
The Bears are no strangers to transatlantic trips, having faced off against Toronto Wolfpack prior to their promotion, as well as the shorter trip across into Europe to face Toulouse Olympique.
Bears owner and CEO, Alan Robinson, supports the expansion of the league and the opportunity to welcome newfound interest in the sport from elsewhere.
“I hope everyone can see the bigger picture with the investment they are making in Rugby League for the future.
“Its an opportunity for us all that we need to embrace.”
Bears play only their third home game of the season on Good Friday (3pm) against London Skolars.
A win would be their third in a row at Butts Park Arena this season, and have good form against the Skolars – winning the previous fixture 24-20 in July in London.
A win would prop the eighth-placed Bears above the Skolars – who currently stand seventh in Betfred League 1.
