THREE goals in the final period helped Blaze secure a valuable 5-3 victory over Sheffield Steelers at the Skydome in their bid to make the Elite League play-offs.
Trailing 3-2 going into the last 20 minutes, Blaze turned the game around to register a ninth win in their last ten in the league to move into joint-sixth place.
Mike Forney fired Steelers ahead after 92 seconds and then restored his side’s lead after Derek Lee had levelled for Blaze.
Jakub Sindel tied it up again before Tyler Mosienko nudged Steelers in front for a third time with 32 seconds of the middle session remaining.
But strikes from Steven Chalmers, Lee and Jereme Tendler earned Blaze another vital two points and they were aided by 39 saves from Brian Stewart in the Blaze goal.
“We pushed the pace in the third period and it was nice to see the boys rewarded for all their hard work in practice and the gym,” said head coach Chuck Weber.
“To be undefeated in regulation time in ten games against the quality of opposition we have faced is full credit to the boys.
“I had not seen a lot of Derek Lee but his line with Ashley Tait and Russell Cowley was very effective and to have other guys step up is something we have been striving for.”
