COVENTRY City have signed 19-year-old Derby County winger Luke Thomas on loan until January.
The highly-rated youngster is seen as one for the future by new Rams manager Frank Lampard.
And despite only playing for the first team a handful of times he signed a new four-year deal with Derby earlier this month.
A Sky Blues spokesperson said: “We are delighted to confirm the loan signing of Luke Thomas until January 1.
“The loan agreement will see Luke eligible to play in the New Year’s Day fixture against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
“Luke began his career in the National League with Cheltenham Town back in 2015 and caught the eye of Derby County, who secured his services for an undisclosed fee in 2016.
“Following a loan spell with Gloucester City during the 2016/17 season, Thomas returned to The Rams and featured in the under-23 side, winning Premier League 2 Player of the Month in September.
“A few weeks later and Luke would make his debut for the County first team, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
“Having been amongst the substitutes in Derby’s opening Championship fixtures, Luke is now linking up with the Sky Blues, as he looks to continue his development under Mark Robins.”
City manager Mark Robins said: “We are delighted to bring Luke in, he’s an out and out winger who will offer us some balance which we have been missing.
“He is still a young lad at 19 and we are looking forward to working with him and helping him to continue to develop and improve whilst he is with us.”
