Coventry City sign striker Conor Chaplin from Portsmouth

Coventry Editorial 30th Aug, 2018   0

COVENTRY City have completed the signing of striker Conor Chaplin from Portsmouth on loan, with an agreement to sign permanently in January.

An undisclosed fee has been agreed with Portsmouth for the 21-year-old following weeks of speculation.

The Worthing born forward came through the ranks at Pompey, going on to make 122 appearances and score 25 goals for the South Coast side after making his debut in December 2014.

Chaplin was part of the Portsmouth side that won the League Two title in 2016-17, appearing in 39 league matches in that successful season.

The Sky Blues fought off fierce competition to capture the signature of Chaplin.

Manager Mark Robins said: “We are delighted to have signed Conor on loan, ahead of him joining permanently. He has been our number one target during the Summer, and he has shown a clear desire to join the club too.

“He is a great character to have around the club, and on the field is a player who is sharp, intelligent and has a clear finishing ability too.

“We are very pleased to have beaten a number of other clubs to his signature in what is a significant transfer for the club, and look forward to working with Conor.”
